And the music don't stop

Monday night friends treated us to a concert of Michael Franti and Spearhead in Paradiso, because we'd helped them move house. I didn't really know the band, except for seeing one or two of their songs on tv, but we were positively, totally and completely blown away. They started playing around 9:30 and they weren't done when we left at 1am... :-) Looking at the end of the stream of the concert at Fabchannel.com (see under "Latest Streams" and click on Michael Franti) I think we actually only missed the very last song. This was one concert to remember.

Michael Franti is a positive genius. I talked to him somewhere in the previous millennium, when he was still the frontman of The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy (see UBL, http://ubl.artistdirect.com/music/artist/bio/0,,423750,00.html?artist=The+Disposable+Heroes+of+Hiphoprisy), in his angry-young-man days. They had just played a gig in Nijmegen's Doornroosje and I met them near the railway station, just as they squeezed themselves into a minivan. He was very approachable and eager to discuss anything from the weather to musical tastes to the current state of Dutch politics. I don't really like the Spearhead style, but I'll tip my hat anytime at this man's wit and personality. And he's a bloody good bass player, too.

Since MT-Blacklist inexplicably stopped working I had no other recourse than close comments and trackbacks to stop the spam. I've been meaning to correct this for quite a while, but life got in the way... in a good way I should add.
