I wonder - do all Dutch cats come either in black/white or in red/something? I can't remember seing any other variation...at least not here in Utrecht (except for my own - white with David Bowie eyes).Posted by Tommy on September 21, 2004 @ 07:52
My guess is that in general people like to see black, white, and/or red cats better than grey/brown cats.
I remember when I was a kid that the cats on most of the farms nearby generally were a mix of grey, brown, black. These cats were not kept to look cute for people, they were kept to catch mice and other vermin. The farmer didn't care what the cats looked like, just as long as they did what they should be doing.
Nowadays catching mice isn't much of a priority for most people who have cats.

Actually, I had a grey/black striped cat with I was a kid. And I still have a very soft spot for those.
And mice are cute too!
