Prachtig, hoe oude mensen zich kunnen kleden op het lekkere weer. Ze waren zeker een jaar of 75. Zij was gekleed in een lichtblauwe rok tot halverwege de kuit, met bijpassende blazer, van een luchtige stof. Linnen misschien, of dunne katoen. Een witte bloes, panties en nette schoenen met hakje maakten het ensemble compleet. Hij droeg een licht khaki-kleurig pak van eenzelfde luchtige stof. Ook hij droeg netjes gepoetste schoenen. Op zijn hoofd had hij een strooien gleufhoed die neigde naar een bescheiden cowboyhoed. Beiden droegen een zonnebril op sterkte en arm in arm stapten zij voorbij in de felle middagzon.

Panty (sg.) and panties (pl.) are normal Dutch words, taken from English, obviously, but in Dutch they only carry the meaning of "pantyhose." Panty in English obviously refers to underwear, whereas there is no such connotation in Dutch.
But then... this _is_ my Dutch blog :-)

B.T.W.: don't get your knickers in a twist over this. It was meant as a joke.
Still, it is an interesting point, given the tremendous rate of 'take-over bids' for English vocab these days.
